Newborn Care Plan
Feb 06, 2018Newborn care plan ideas
Keeping a journal is an important part of a newborn care plan.
Don’t forget the most simple yet precious information about your newborn is the days and weeks following his or her life. Record the vital functions of your newborn.
Journal as much as you can before and especially, after having your baby. Keeping a journal is crucial in the weeks following the birth of your child as you will forget the most simple yet important details relating to your new baby.
You might have the best memory in town, however, the days and weeks after childbirth, that all disappears.
Writing down the events of your baby’s behaviour and functions as they occur, will ensure not forgetting! You will know that you forgot when you go back and read your journal entries. It’s astounding!
Essentials to newborn care
Record the following as part of your newborn care plan:
- You will need to record each moment you tried to nurse or feed your baby.
- Did he or she urinate/defecate? When? How many diapers did they use?
- Did he or she sleep? For how long?
- Did your baby react to anything? Breast milk, formula, animals, sounds.
- When did you last bath your baby?
- Reactions to medicine or vaccines.
These are simple activities but they are important especially in the first days and weeks of your baby’s life.
You will be asked questions about your baby by nurses and doctors. You will need to know the answers.
This baby is your responsibility. Don’t try to commit to memory what you can easily write down.
You will also see patterns, changes etc. that will either alarm or secure you. Either way you will need to have this information at hand.
Parenting is an awesome experience and a position of responsibility and privilege. Take care of your self and your children and make it part of your therapy for your life experience.
